Men's Running Shoes & Trainers

We build men’s running shoes for those tough early morning training sessions. For race days when you’re pushing your limits. For your hardest of hard tempo runs, hill sprints and interval sessions. Because if you’re serious about your sport, you need to know your running shoes are serious about supporting you.

Under Armour’s running shoes for men are built to endure. We give you a combination of tried and tested features, plus innovative technologies that give you the edge.

The cushioning on road running shoes for men is arguably the most important feature, giving you the bounce and protection you need - whether you’re running 25 miles or 100 metres. Look at the soles of our men’s running trainers and you’ll find our highly responsive UA HOVR™ cushioning - it literally returns energy with every step. Many of our light running shoes are built with UA FLOW, a new foam we pioneered that’s ultra lightweight while maintaining its shape over long distances. And of course, the outsoles feel super grippy - giving you the traction you need to kick off against wet or uneven surfaces.

Our men’s running shoes utilise highly breathable mesh in the uppers. That prevents overheating and encourages airflow, even on gruelling hot weather training days. Many contain UA Iso-Chill, a fabric that feels cool to the touch, and helps you regulate temperature more easily. Meanwhile our UA Warp™ material gives you a stable yet lightweight locked down feel, giving your feet just enough flex while preventing uncontrolled movement.

Different kinds of runs need different kinds of footwear. Our long distance road running shoes for men  are focused on lightweight cushioning - try our UA HOVR™ Infinite 4 or UA HOVR™ Machina 3 running shoes for marathons and beyond. For shorter distances and faster races, you need something with tough outers and a low profile - try the Velociti Wind or the UA HOVR™ Speed Running Shoes for starters. Or for everyday jogging shoes for men, try the UA HOVR™ Phantom 3 or UA Charged Pursuit for that reliable pair you take on 10ks, half marathons or your regular training.

FAQs about our Running Shoes

How should running shoes fit?

This is gear you grind hard in, so it has to fit right. There are a couple of key rules when it comes to fitting running shoes.

First, you need enough toe space - your feet will swell when you’re training hard and move back and forth with each gait cycle. You want about half an inch between your longest toe and the front of the shoe to prevent discomfort. Most runners choose shoes that are half a size bigger than their regular footwear (our running shoes are available in half sizes).

Everywhere else, you’re looking for a supportive, locked in feel. This prevents rubbing,  blisters and injuries. We do this with tech like TPU heel clips, structured collars, plush tongues and UA IntelliKnit uppers that mould to the shape of your foot. Underfoot, our 3D moulded sock liners give even more support and structure.

How long will running shoes last?

As a rule of thumb, most running shoes will last 300-500 miles (~480-800 km). Exactly how long they last depends on a few factors, including how and where you run, how well you care for your shoes, and what they’re made with (read our guide to making running shoes last longer).

At Under Armour, we build tough running shoes, using highly durable rubber outsoles, and game-changing foams like Charged Cushioning® and UA HOVR™ for total comfort, mile after mile.

Should you size up in running shoes?

Yes, you should size up in running shoes. You want about half an inch of space between the end of your longest toe, and the front of the shoe. Most runners choose footwear that’s either a full size or a half size bigger than their regular footwear.

When you’re training, your feet swell a little, so you need the extra space. Another reason for sizing up in running shoes is to enable your natural gait cycle - your forefoot flexes and your feet move back and forth inside the shoes itself with each step. Extra space means your runs will be more comfortable.

All our running shoes are available in half sizes, so you can find the exact fit for your needs. Check our men’s shoe sizing guide to get the right pair.

Can you use trail running shoes on the road?

No, we wouldn’t advise using trail running shoes on hard surfaces like asphalt or concrete. Trail running shoes are built with deep lugs on the outsoles, and slightly softer rubber than what you’d find on road running shoes. These lugs give you serious traction on wet, muddy surfaces. But if you wear them on hard surfaces, the increased friction can damage them.

Those deep lugs are awesome at churning up the dirt, but they reduce ground contact when used on totally flat surfaces. That means you might have less stability when running on roads in trail shoes.

That said, if your trail route occasionally takes you along short stretches of tarmac, Under Armour trail shoes are tough enough to handle the occasional section of road.

Which running shoes are best for sprinting, marathons and daily wear?

Different kinds of running need different kinds of gear.

The best shoes for sprinting are seriously lightweight, have a lower toe-to-heel drop and a more aggressive profile (basically, a bit less bounce than other shoes). Take the UA Velociti Pro. It’s built with UA Flow, our combined cushioning and outsole system which gives you propulsive energy return, while removing the traditional rubber tread - which makes them lighter. It has a rocker-inspired design that helps build momentum as you move through the gears. It also uses a full-length Pebax® plate that adds stability and support.

For marathon running, it’s all about cushioning. You’re looking for something lightweight, responsive, and seriously durable. If you’re newish to this event, something like the UA Infinite Elite is a strong choice. It's built with our springiest UA HOVR+ cushioning, a 3D-molded sockliner for enhanced comfort and a unique heel design that helps smooth landings, mile after mile. Aiming for your marathon PB? The UA Velociti Elite 2 features a full-length carbon fibre plate for explosive life-offs with every stride.

For your everyday runs and treadmill sessions, the focus should be on comfort and reliability. The UA Turbulence 2 is a strong choice, offering a powerful mix of responsive UA HOVR™ cushioning, durable rubber outsole and a breathable knit upper for lightweight containment.

Which weather conditions are Under Armour running shoes suitable for?

You work hard in any weather. So do our running shoes. We built our gear to be super versatile, and they can handle most conditions with ease. Our seriously durable outsoles are the most important feature. They give you traction whether you’re running on wet or dry surfaces, preventing slippage. We also use breathable knit uppers in our running shoes, which allow air to circulate and prevent overheating.

For more extreme conditions, we’ve built specialised shoes. Many of our road and trail running shoes are built with water-resistant UA Storm uppers, which remains breathable while preventing rain from getting in. For running in serious heat, we’ve used monofilament translucent uppers in shoes like the UA Infinite Pro Breeze for extreme breathability.

How are Under Armour running shoes designed for optimal comfort and performance?

Everything we do is designed to help you train better. For each shoe we release, we do literally thousands of hours of research and development in the lab and out on the roads to understand what helps runners go longer, harder and faster. We seriously obsess about every detail and fine tune this gear until we’re proud to put our name on it.

We also innovate in-house and with external partners to bring game changing new technologies to our running shoes - like UA Flow cushioning tech (a collab with materials science experts at Dow), full-length carbon fibre plates for explosive lift offs or monofilament translucent uppers for unparalleled breathability.

How do I choose the right running shoes for me?

Your running shoes should make you better - boosting your performance while giving you maximum enjoyment. Choosing the right shoe depends on a few key things, including the surface you run on, the distances you cover, your size, gender and weight, plus personal preferences (Do you prioritise comfort? Speed? Stability?).

The easiest place to start is with our Running Shoe Finder - it’s a quick tool that narrows down your options and suggests the best shoes for your needs.

What cushioning do Under Armour running shoes provide?

You’ll be grinding hard in your running shoes for hundreds of miles. Quality cushioning is non-negotiable. We’ve developed some of the most innovative cushioning systems for different types of runners, experience levels and training styles. Whatever system you choose, you can be confident it’ll be insanely tough, supportive, and will protect your joints.

UA Charged Cushioning® is our proprietary cushioning technology - it’s a compression moulded foam that is incredibly lightweight and responsive. Our UA HOVR™ and UA HOVR+ cushioning system gives you incredible levels of bounce and energy return. It has a soft cushioned core that’s contained within an energy web. Then there’s UA Flow, which is a complete cushioning and traction system. UA Flow eliminates the need for an extra layer of outsole rubber, making shoes lighter, while still being seriously responsive and long lasting.

We also build in cushioning elsewhere. Practically all our running shoes use EVA foam sock liners and collar foams for more shock absorption and lockdown.

Are Under Armour running shoes waterproof?

No, not exactly. Many of our running shoes are water-resistant - and we use our breathable UA Storm technology that allows water vapour to escape from these shoes, but prevents water getting in. But we don’t claim they’re waterproof (and you should be suspicious of anyone who says their shoes are). No amount of smart technology could completely prevent water entering running shoes at the ankle, through lace holes or submergence in deep puddles.

What surface should you wear your running shoes on?

We designed our running shoes primarily for use on hard but relatively smooth surfaces such as concrete or tarmac. They are also suited for use on treadmills.

Under Armour gear is tough and versatile, and your running shoes can handle more rugged surfaces too - such as dry footpaths, woodchip footpaths, compacted sand, wooden boardwalks and grass. However, if you do most of your running off-road, we’d recommend a pair of trail running shoes - they give you more grip - especially when these surfaces get wet.
